I've just come back from a wonderful long weekend birthday trip to the Cote d'Azur.  What made this trip even more enjoyable was the fact that as I've been so ill for the last 5 years, I've lost count of the number of times we've had to cancel a trip at the eleventh hour due to my "condition" flairing up again!

Yesterday, my gorgeous husband Peter went off to ski in Italy, with a DD group. Talk about (literally) flying by the seat of your pants!  The alarm didn't go off at 4 am and at 6.30 am we both woke up with a shriek.  An 100 mile an hour dash to Gatwick followed, with me clutching the seat and Peter clutching the airline tickets for himself and 8 other DD-ers, who were already waiting at the airport.  To cut a long and traumatic story short, he got on that plane to Turin with 5 minutes to spare - sans baggage - as the hold had shut 15 minutes previously.

Sometimes when we go away on holiday, we're doing what's termed "a geographical".  What this means is that we pack up all of our troubles in our old kit bag, travel perhaps to a far-flung destination - and guess who we meet there?  Ourselves with all of our problems which have also been transported to the holiday spot - in our heads! We might as well have stayed at home and spent our hard-earned cash on a new 3 piece suite instead.

In today's Daily Mail, 73 year old Jane Fonda, veteran star of stage and screen, proudly announces that she's "bought herself time" by undergoing plastic surgery to her chin, neck and eyes. Now, while I'd love to be able to slip into the same leotard I wore in the 70s, just like Hanoi Jane, I'm someone who's fervently opposed to plastic surgery, other than for reconstructive purposes.
