It is hard to think of a more popular or enduring opera than Bizet’s opera 'Carmen'. The central character Carmen is a beautiful gypsy girl with a complex character & a fierce & intense temper. After wooing the soldier Don José, she turns from him to the bullfighter Escamillo, leading to fury & jealous rage. Intense & thrilling, the opera is filled with wonderful arias – many of which may well be familiar to you.

The theatre is set in the midst of Holland Park & is famed for its informal, sophisticated & relaxed atmosphere. It is a spectacularly beautiful new building with a large new canopy which covers the stage, auditorium & foyer, new seating, a dramatic mezzanine floor in the foyer & a high level of landscaping round the theatre. No performance has ever been lost due to weather!

We will sip ‘champagne’ in the interval & after this stunning, fiery & passionate opera we dine at the nearby Thai restaurant The Blue Lagoon with its fine food, romantic setting, warm lighting, exotic flowers & fine objects from Thailand.
