We travel by private coach from central London to Kenilworth Castle with our own private tour guide Tim Hudson, to entertain us along the way with interesting & intriguing anecdotes.

The vast & spectacular medieval fortress of Kenilworth Castle is set in enormous grounds perfect for exploring. The ruins are best known as the home of Robert Dudley, the great love of Queen Elizabeth I. Dudley created an ornate palace here to impress his beloved Queen in 1575. The newly re-created Elizabethan Garden, lost for 400 years, is now open to visitors once more & is a paradise for garden lovers, where you can wander through this sumptuous landscape as Queen Elizabeth I would have done herself.

Following our tour we travel by coach the The Cross in Kenilworth, an award winning restaurant specialising in modern European cuisine consistently prepared & served to the highest of standards. Here we can relax over a delicious well deserved lunch with wine & chat about our morning’s adventures.

After lunch we travel by coach to Lord Leycester Hospital, the Hidden Jewel in the crown of Warwick’s historic buildings. Lord Leycester Hospital is not now & has never been a medical establishment. The word ‘hospital’ is used in its ancient sense meaning "a charitable institution for the housing & maintenance of the needy, infirm or aged"!

The Hospital is an historic group of timber-framed buildings dating mainly from the late 14th Century clustered round the Norman gateway into Warwick with its 12th Century Chantry Chapel above it. Hidden behind the ancient buildings is the tiny but delightful Master's Garden. For nearly 200 years it was the home of Warwick's mediaeval Guilds; in the reign of Queen Elizabeth I it became a place of retirement for old warriors & their wives & it remains today as an independent charity providing a home for ex-Servicemen and their wives. After our visit, time permitting, Tim will give us a short but informative tour of Warwick before we travel back to London in our coach.

An unusual & thoroughly enjoyable day out!
