Ski the Milky Way from Sauze D’Oulx

Pronounced locally as "Sow-zer douss" Sauze d'Oulx is an exceptionally popular resort with many British skiers returning year after year.  With easy access to the Milky Way ski area, it combines superb skiing with fantastic après-ski.

The Milky Way

Five villages form the Italian Milky Way: Cesana, Claviere, Sansicario, Sauze d'Oulx and Sestriere. These are connected by an extensive lift system to offer 140 ski slopes totalling 400km, 93 lifts and 1 board park.

The lift pass covers them all, as well as one day's skiing in Montgenèvre in France, so why not ski in some of the largest terrain in the world with a wide selection of runs, resorts, mountains and even countries from which to choose?

Ski lifts are a complimentary shuttle bus away so access to the slopes is easy.

There is skiing here for every level. English-speaking ski-school or private tuition is readily available.  Experts and adventurous intermediates may wish to head to the black runs at the top of Mount Motta and Mount Sises in Sestriere, or zip down the World Cup Kandahar Slalom or Kandaar Barchetta runs!

Sauze has a much better than average sunshine record and much above average skiing; 90km of the area's pistes have artificial snow-making facilities (with over 1000 snow cannons).

The Park Hotel Gran Bosco

Overlooking the lower valley in Gran Villard, the hotel is ideally situated 900m from the town centre and the chairlifts of Clotes & Sportina, which can be accessed by a complimentary shuttle bus that leaves from the bottom of the ramp outside the hotel.

The hotel boasts a bar, TV lounge and restaurant, while leisure facilities include a sauna, solarium and Jacuzzi - a wonderful way to relax after a hard day on the piste.

All our rooms feature a balcony or terrace, TV, telephone, safe and hairdryer.

Chill with a Chianti

Sauze is one of Italy’s liveliest resorts, with numerous bars and restaurants to choose from. If you are looking for cocktails after a hard day on the slope then Moncrons won’t disappoint. Next door to Moncrons you’ll find The Derby bar which has a large open fire and a wide range of local liquor.

Popular with the Après crowd is Bar Mira which keeps the visitors entertained with live sport, happy hours, table football and an automatic massage room! There’s also WIFI for those wishing to get online.   The Cotton Club, being in the centre of town, is a popular choice with the late crowd however if you like your pubs to be Irish then Paddy McGinty’s will be able to pour you a pint of the black stuff and with a real fire and food on offer its popular as you come off the slopes, wifi is also on offer.

Further into the old town Il Lampione stays open late and Gran Trun has occasional live music. Another venue for live music is Vagabondi’s which is in the main square and has a mixture of Italian and English music. Most bars stay open late however if you are looking to dance into the small hours of the morning then Sauze has a nightclub that’ll keep you going until the small hours.

What isn't included?

• Travel Insurance (Winter sports cover is compulsory)
• Travel to and from Gatwick airport
• Ski Pass (€180 for a 6 Day pass for the entire Milky Way area, plus one day's skiing in Montgenèvre in France. Local passes - suitable for beginners only are less than this).  We will arrange passes for you.
• Ski, boot and pole hire - approx €92 for gold standard, suitable for advanced skiers, €71 for silver standard, suitable for intermediates and €51 for bronze hire, suitable for beginners. We can arrange ski hire for you.
• Ski lessons - approx €130 for group lessons, Private lessons range from €35 per hour one person, to €13 per hour each for a group of 4 people. We can arrange lessons for you.
• Lunch.
• The indicative total price for the holiday, Milky Way Ski Pass and intermediate level ski hire is £1,215, (£1,329 including a week's ski school).
